Ischemic heart disease was added to a list of disabilities VA presumes to be caused by Agent Orange exposure. Here is what VA means by ischemic heart disease:
Arteriosclerotic heart disease, also diagnosed as ischemic heart disease (IHD) and coronary artery disease (CAD), is a disease of the heart caused by the diminution of blood supply to the heart muscle due to narrowing of the cavity of one or both coronary arteries due to the accumulation of fatty material on the inner lining of the arterial wall.
V.iii.5.1.a.
And it gives a few other examples of varying diagnoses that would fit the definition:
- ischemic heart disease, including, but not limited to,
- acute, subacute, and old myocardial infarction
- atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease including coronary artery disease (including coronary spasm) and coronary bypass surgery
- stable, unstable, and Prinzmetal’s angina, and
- ischemic cardiomyopathy
